Local Attractions
Nova Scotia is a seaside province of rare beauty, with miles of coast line, fabulous uncrowded beaches and acres of woodlands and farming valleys. The air is fresh and pure and the people warm and friendly. With under a million people in the province, traveling is easy and the open spaces plentiful (and includes many golf courses!). At the same time there is easy access to a wide array of local fresh foods (including seafood) as well foods to suit cosmopolitan tastes. There are excellent restaurants, from fine dining to home-style local cooking, and all at reasonable prices. We are proud of our heritage, which is preserved in an excellent system of world class museums (e.g. in Halifax, The Citadel National Park or the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History), restored houses and living heritage sites (e.g. boat building or pioneer farming). The culture of our native people and the new settlers from England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany and many other lands is reflected in our place names, historic sites, a wide array of superb local handcrafts, and traditional music and foods.

From the Garden View in Halifax, enjoy countless fascinating day trips (plan your own or join a tour), a weekend getaway or getaway vacation to the surrounding area such as Peggy’s Cove, historic Lunenburg, winery tours or whale watching; and there are always exciting Nova Scotia events and attractions to attend to keep you comming back for more.
Halifax is the provincial capitol of Nova Scotia and outwardly shows a modern face, but its inside is filled with an historic heart. When you stay at the Garden View you can leave your car at home and enjoy this bustling city that with a long affiliation with the sea on foot; excellent restaurants and shopping, art galleries, theatre, an historic and lively waterfront with buskers, shops, sailing tours, restaurants, a casino and entertainment. There are several city tours, such as the Harbour Hopper & a double-decker bus.
Halifax Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world (after Sydney, Australia). The harbour and the historic downtown waterfront, only a 15 minute walk from the Garden View, is the pulse that beats the city, bringing tourists and sea farers by the thousands. To more fully understand the importance of the sea in Halifax's history, visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The museum includes two ships and houses a collection of nautical memorabilia including a display of shipwrecks off of Nova Scotia, Queen Victoria's barge, various historic small craft, and a continuously running film by National Geographic about the RMS Titanic, which sunk off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1914.
The Spring Garden Road shopping area with many shops and restaurants is the liveliest street east of Montreal. Reach it by a 10 minute walk from the Garden View, passing through the historic and beautiful Public Gardens on the way. Or, for a quiet evening at home there are several good restaurants near-by the Garden View.
